Book of Mormon Feast
Ether 1:37
Stephanie Kay Northrup
Acrylic on drilled and carved hardboard panel, 10" x 30"
As the people of Babel attempt to build their tower to heaven and their language is cursed (carving and drilled holes in background), The Brother of Jared strides away, his own personal tower to heaven built within himself (carved on his chest). The 16 white stones he later takes before the Lord to light their ships to the promised land are also represented.

When asked what he would like his work to be known for Albin responded; "If I can enrich the lives of those who view my work in any way, I have accomplished my goal. There is something of the divine that comes through the work of one who has mastered his mode of expression and who has something good to say. When that message comes through and awakens something within the viewer that improves his or her life; that, I believe, is the higher purpose of art. That's what I strive for."

I Will Bring You Up Again Out of the Depths
Jonathan Arthur Clarke
“For the mountain waves shall dash upon you. Nevertheless, I will bring you up again out of the depths of the sea; for the winds have gone forth out of my mouth, and also the rains and the floods have I sent forth” (Ether 2:24). The Jaredites “did sing praises unto the Lord” (Ether 6:9) throughout their journey of 344 days upon the waters. They endured the terrible tempests with gladness, knowing it was the Lord who caused the furious wind. They viewed their trials as a manifestation of divine guidance, “and it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land while they were upon the waters” (Ether 6:8).

Touch These Stones, by Alex Barlow
Ether 3:1-
BOOK OF MORMON PHOTOGRAPHY
Bryce Gandy
The Book of Mormon records that the Brother of Jared did moulten out of a rock sixteen small, white stones. He took these stones to the Lord, and requested that He touch them with His finger, and make them shine, so that they would have light in their boats when they made the great journey across the sea to the promised land where the Lord was sending them.

“Touch These Stones,” by Marilyn Arnold & Maurine Ozment
Sacred Hymns of the Book of Mormon, 17
This song memorializes the faith and commitment of the Brother of Jared as he prayed for physical light for his people as they crossed the great waters. As a result, he received the spiritual light of seeing the Lord face to face, which would sustain him during his journey through mortality.

Real Heroes Posters – Steven Nethercott
When the Brother of Jared approached the Lord to make the stones shine for the benefit of his people, he came with great faith: “For I know, O Lord, that thou hast all power, and can do whatsoever thou wilt for the benefit of man.” The Book of Mormon records that the Lord commended the Brother of Jared for this great faith.

The Brother of Jared Sees the Finger of the Lord
Arnold Friberg
After the declaration of faith and the petition by the Brother of Jared, the Book of Mormon says, “Behold, the Lord stretched forth His hand and touched the stones one by one with His finger. And the veil was taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared, and he saw the finger of the Lord; and it was as the finger of a man, like unto flesh and blood; and the brother of Jared fell down before the Lord, for he was struck with fear.”
Artist’s Notes:
“Being, as the book says, a man of immense faith, the brother of Jared fully expected the stones to be lighted. It was seeing the finger as it touched the stones that astonished and terrified him. It is this stunning surprise that the artist sought to capture.
“Some church leaders felt that no mortal artist could adequately picture the divine hand and finger. Friberg solved the problem by picturing some of the stones, while concealing the finger within a dense cloud, broken only by the rays of an intense blinding light. By this simple means, the whole scene was now drenched in mystery burning into our imagination a more sublime glory that could ever have been pictured in physical reality.”

“The Lord Sheltered Ether,” by Marilyn Arnold & Maurine Ozment,
Sacred Hymns of the Book of Mormon, 29
The last prophet of the great Book of Mormon nation known as the Jaredites, Ether, saw the fall of his people, as they rejected the Lord’s way. The prophet Moroni, likewise a lone survivor, made an abridgement of the Jaredite story, as his father Mormon had abridged the record of his own people, the Nephites.
This song gives us some appreciation of the prophet Ether, and the knowledge and blessings he offered to his people from the Lord.

This haunting poem appears on the Real Intent website, but in my experience this website always locks up, so I’m reprinting it here:
song for the House of Jared
by James Goldberg
You cleared and you ploughed and you planted these lands
(and their name will be Desolation)
You built up great cities with bare, calloused hands
(and their fame will be left Desolation)
You bartered and borrowed, you purchased and sold
(and these riches will buy Desolation)
Your kings and their sons fought like heroes of old
(and their bones will adorn Desolation)
Hear this: someday a nation will rise like your own
(when old trees overgrow Desolation)
And they, too, will choose by what name to be known
(but must it be yours, Desolation?)
